Her ashes will be buried in the Prairie View Cemetery. The daughter of Ray and Maude Burch [sic] Sutherland, she was born on May 1, 1913, in Gilman, and attended Gilman schools. Her ashes will be buried in the Prairie View Cemetery. The daughter of Ray and Maude Burch [sic] Sutherland, she was born on May 1, 1913, in Gilman, and attended Gilman schools. She later attended St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, and became a registered nurse. She worked in Rochester hospitals until her enlistment in the Army Nurses Corp. in 1943. She was assigned to the Charles Mayo Medical Unit and served for three years, 1 1/2 of which were spent in New Guinea and New Zealand. Following her discharge from the army she worked as a nurse in the Veterans Administration until her retirement in 1975. She is survived by two sisters, Helen Hansen of Sioux City and Virginia Clark of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Hibbard Sutherland of Berkeley, California, and Jack Sutherland of Gilman. Added 07 April 2018
