Description	:	Margaret Walsh Payne, 64, of the Laurel Branch community in Bryson City went to be with the Lord and her husband on November 2, 2010. She put up a courageous four year fight against ovarian cancer and lived each day to the fullest. She was born in Murphy, NC to the late Andrew Walsh and Ola Lequire Walsh Johnson. Read More	Margaret Walsh Payne, 64, of the Laurel Branch community in Bryson City went to be with the Lord and her husband on November 2, 2010. She put up a courageous four year fight against ovarian cancer and lived each day to the fullest. She was born in Murphy, NC to the late Andrew Walsh and Ola Lequire Walsh Johnson. At three weeks of age her father tragically died in a train accident. Her mother moved Margaret and three other siblings under the age of five to Bryson City. Later, her mother married the late Carl "Cap" Johnson who became a loving father to the children. Margaret married Joe Payne of Bryson City, her 9th grade sweetheart, and they moved to Georgia in 1968 where they lived for 30 years. During this time she gave birth to two sons. Margaret worked for Rose's Department Store and the Salvation Army before moving back to Bryson City in 1998. They were married 45 years before Joe's death in 2008. She is survived by two sons, Scott Payne and wife Mandy of Bryson City, Mark Payne and wife Elizabeth of Salt Lake City, Utah; five grandchildren, Kayla, Chase, Tyler, Lucas and Samuel; three brothers, Walter Walsh and wife Jessie, Harold Johnson and wife Lynda, Bill Johnson and wife Linda all of Bryson City ; two sisters, Wanda Walsh Daniele and husband Joe Daniele of Elk Grove, California and Opal Walsh Crisp and husband Bill Crisp of Whittier; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Johnson. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 7 from 3 -5 p.m. at Bryson City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 8 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Bryson City. She will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Peter Mudge will officiate with burial in Laurel Branch cemetery. Margaret was a mother and a friend to everyone she met. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live forever. Rest in peace.
