Read More	Gretta Uren Ainley, wife of Charles ("Tom") Ainley, was born near Newell in Sac county, July 11, 1878, and passed away Feb. 27, 1945 in Algona. She was the eldest daughter of William and Eliza Ann Uren and lived almost her entire life in Iowa, excepting part of one year when she lived with her parents in Kansas. She lived most of her married life around Laurens and there married Chas. "Tom" Ainley Feb. 12, 1909. After living one year in Laurens, they rented a farm south of Havelock and lived there for 17 years. In 1927 they purchased a farm near Algona in Kossuth county where for the past 18 years they have made a comfortable home. Mrs. Ainley had been in frail health for the past few years yet she was never really ill, always up and around. On the day of her death she seemed unusually well and desired to go to Algona shopping. So she and her husband went and spent the afternoon. About 4 p. m., as her husband came to the store and met her, he noticed she did not look well. A doctor was summoned and removed her to a hospital but there was no encouragement and she remained in a deep sleep and peacefully passed away at 6 p. m. on the afternoon of Feb. 27, 1945 at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 16 days. Mrs. Ainley was the eldest of a large family, and was always regarded as nearly a mother to all. Always kind and patient with the younger children of the family, she always remembered with little kindnesses, all special days and was thoughtful of the welfare of others. She will be greatly missed by her husband, a devoted and loving, companion for 36 years. They had spent their entire marriage working together to build up their home, and she will surely leave a vacant place in that home life. As no children came to bless this home she has always taken a keener interest in the home place and was a great help to her husband. Her family will always remember her as ever thoughtful and kind. Besides her husband she leaves to mourn, her aged mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Uren, for whom she was greatly concerned; four sisters, Frances, Mrs. Chas. Sanders of Lincoln, Nebr.; Mrs. Ethel Mulvihill of Albert City; Opal, Mrs. Harry Davis of Nemaha; Emily, Mrs. David Bentley of Sac City; and three brothers, Dick and Sam Uren of Spencer and Wm. Uren of Sac City; also 18 nieces and nephews, several of the nephews in the service for whom she was greatly concerned. Besides a great many other relatives and many friends. The services were held from the Congregational church in Newell March 1, at 2:30. The Rev. John Clifton, a friend of the family for many years at Havelock, was in charge, assisted by the Pastor of the church. The bearers were Chas. Sanders, Glen Uren, Harry Davis, David Bentley, John Bentley, and Walter Bentley. Burial was made in the Newell cemetery on the family lot. (Laurens Sun, Mar. 8, 1945)
