Read More	Obituary from the Versailles Leader-Statesman, undated: Mrs. Marguerite M. Nelson, 75, Versailles, died Wednesday, July 31, at her home. She was born Feb. 3, 1910 at Akinsville, the daughter of David F. and Ethel Lammert Short. She was married to Floyd Nelson on May 20, 1939. He died July 19, 1966. Mrs. Nelson was a graduate of California High School and attended Central Missouri State College of Warrensburg. She taught for several years in the rural schools of Moniteau County before moving to Versailles. She taught at the Morgan County R-II School in Versailles from 1955 until her retirement in 1975. Mrs. Nelson was a member of the First Baptist Church, Versailles, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 410, Versailles, the Retired Teachers Association of Missouri, and the Morgan County Historical Society. Survivors include two sons, Allen Nelson, Spokane, WA, and Terry Nelson, Virginia Beach, VA; one daughter, Mrs. Sue Gunn, Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Edna Hall, Versailles; and five grandchildren. Mrs. Eldon Walter, California, is an aunt. ---------------------------------------- From the Versailles Leader-Statesman: MARGUERITE NELSON NAMED 1974 "OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR" Mrs. Marguerite Nelson was honored by the Morgan County R-2 Community Teachers Association as Outstanding Educator of the Year in a meeting Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Pioneer Restaurant. Mrs. Nelson has taught the fourth grade at Versailles since 1956. She went to Versailles High School for two years but transferred to California High School in her junior year and graduated there in 1929. That year she took the state exams necessary to become a teacher and passed, which began an 11-year career teaching in rural schools in Moniteau and Cooper counties. During this time, she attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg in the summers and completed over 80 hours of college credit. In 1940, she resigned to have her family and did not return to teaching until 1956 when she accepted the position as fourth grade teacher in the Morgan County R-2 system. She then began taking night classes at Lincoln University and received her degree in 1961. She has served as past president of the Community Teachers Association, a local organization of teachers; has served as the association's representative to state meetings; was active in the Cub Scout program while her sons were growing up; and is presently a Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church. Christ Concannon, a spokesman for the teachers association, said several teachers described her as a vivacious individual, enthusiastic and sincerely interested in each of her students. Mrs. Nelson's name and resume was sent to Central Missouri State University, where she will be entered in district competition for outstanding educator.
