Mrs. McCoy, the former Marguerite Rose McDevitt was born October 14, 1922, in rural DeWitt, Iowa, to William and Edna (Ranson) McDevitt. Read More	Marguerite (Mrs. Jake) McCoy, 91, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Sunday evening, March 2, 2014, at The Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton, Iowa. Mrs. McCoy, the former Marguerite Rose McDevitt was born October 14, 1922, in rural DeWitt, Iowa, to William and Edna (Ranson) McDevitt. Marguerite married James "Jake" McCoy, January 7, 1947, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. In Marguerite's earlier years, she taught in rural schools and later worked in the claims department at Iowa Mutual Insurance Company for 35 years. Her husband Jake preceded her in death on April 10, 1986. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, and the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved working with children of all ages and did so at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 16 years. Marguerite loved to recite the Rosary and was often called upon to do so at visitations for many years. In her later years, while residing at The Alverno, she could often be found strolling down to the chapel or spending hours at a time with her "special physical therapist", Linda Ware. Surviving are children, Tom (Rose) McCoy of Iowa City, Iowa, Joe McCoy and Mary Menneke both of DeWitt; grandchildren, Angela Menneke of Long Grove, Iowa, Kelly Menneke of Davenport, Iowa and Thomas (Thomasin) McCoy of Iowa City; two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Jude McCoy; a brother, Tom McDevitt of Tucson, Arizona; a sister, Betty Noonan of Bernard, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Connie McDevitt of Phoenix, Arizona; many nieces, nephews and cousins; a special friend, Linda Ware of Fulton, Illinois. In addition to her husband, Jake, Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill, Bobby and Jack; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Elinor McDevitt, Kate and Earl Dolan and Barbara McDevitt. Visitation will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, Friday, March 7, from 9 until 10:15 a.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Church with the Rev. Fr. Robert T. McAleer, Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Children and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
