Read More	Biographical Information Mary (Maria) C Steinbach (Steinbeck) Gross Kruger was born in Illinois, and I believe her to be the daughter of Phillip (b Germany) and Mary (b Illinois) Steinbach (Steinbeck), who were married in 1853 in Adams county, Illinois. Mary was first married to Christian P (Phillip, aka Phillip Christian) Gross in 1871 in Adams County, Illinois. Christian "Christ" Gross was born ca 1848-49 in Germany, and was the son of John Peter, # 98133537, (b ca 1809-10 in Germany) and Maria, # 98165660, (b ca 1818-19 in Germany / Prussia and d between 1870 and 1880). Mary and Christ; their children, Lena and Andrew; and Christ's father, John P were residing in Quincy, Adams, Illinois in 1880. Based upon the age of his youngest daughter, and the year of Mary's second marriage, Christ PRESUMABLY passed away around 1885. Mary next married Henry Kruger ca 1886 as his second wife. The 1900 census reveals that Mary was the mother of 9 children with 6 still living. Of the 9 children previously mentioned, at least 3; Lena, Andrew and Amanda; were with Christ, and at least 3; Cora, Charlotte, and Henrietta, were with Henry. Lyndall (sic)registered for the draft Sept 12, 1918 at Beaver Crossing, Seward county, Nebraska. He was a druggist and was married to Clara, so she was still living at the time. Enumerated as Clara A in 1920 at Beaver Crossing, Seward, Nebraska with husband, Tyndall, and daughter, Eveln G. In both 1930 and 1940, the couple was enumerated as Tyndall and Clara Lyon in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska. They had two known children; Evelyn, b ca 1912-1913, and Marella / Marcella E, b ca 1919-1920; both in Nebraska. I believe that, instead of age 7, she was actually age 1 at the time of the 1885 census and the entry was transcribed incorrectly. If this is the case, Sophia would have been born around 1883-1884.
