Brown quietly slept away Tuesday morning at the home of her son A.P. Brown where she has resided for the past several years. Mrs. Brown had been confined to her bed for the past 3 weeks with no special malady, simply a complete exhaustion, and while her marvelous vitality she has recuperated from so many illnesses, it was believed her strength had been spent and her passing was not unexpected. Maria Dean Foster was born on April 9, 1827, in Athens, Ohio, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eben Foster. On October 25, 1845, she was united in marriage to Daniel T. Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Brown, with their three children, moved to Lee county in 1856, and here they have spent the greater part of their lives. Mr. Brown preceded her in death about 22 years. To this happy union was bron five sons and three daughters. Two daughters died in infancy, and the eldest son, William E. Brown of Sioux City, S. Dak., died about a week after the celebration for Mrs. Brown's 100th birthday anniversary in 1927. Surviving her are Charles P. Brown of Revere, Mo., Augustus P. Brown of Fort Madison, Frank Brown of Fort Madison, Herbert Brown of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Elizabeth Davis of Marshalltown. Fourteen grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren mourn her death also. Mrs. Brown during her long residence in Fort Madison, has been an outstanding figure here. During her husband's life of activity, he was prominent in civic affairs, they have given to posterity sons who have taken up their work and interest in the commmunity. Through her many long years of semi-invalidism, caused by a fall several years ago, the days have been happily and usefully spent. Refusing to be a care to the household, Mrs. Brown has instead made herself an important figure going about her duties each day and each day accomplishing something by her handiwork to give pleasure to others. Mrs. Brown was a fervent member of Union Presbyterian Church in this city, and while she has been unable for many years to attend its services, her faith has been strong and her religion never neglected. The funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Brown, 629 Avenue E. Friday morning, January 11, at 10:30 o'clock. Dr. Warren F.
