Description	:	Maria Gregg was born in Zanesville, Ohio, July 20, 1834 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs John Oxenford, December 30, 1926, being 92 years, 5 months, 10 days of age. While yet a small child she moved with her parents to Cass county, Michigan, where she grew to womanhood. On September 30, 1854, she was married to Norman R. Hutchinson. Read More	Maria Gregg was born in Zanesville, Ohio, July 20, 1834 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs John Oxenford, December 30, 1926, being 92 years, 5 months, 10 days of age. While yet a small child she moved with her parents to Cass county, Michigan, where she grew to womanhood. On September 30, 1854, she was married to Norman R. Hutchinson. To this union were born five children, four sons and one daughter; one son, J.F. Hutchinson, preceding her in death. The other children are H.A. Hutchinson, C.O.. Hutchinson, and Mrs John Oxenford of Lake City and J.W. Hutchinson of Thornton, Illinois. In the year 1858 they, in company with H.H. Hutchinson and family, left heir home in Michigan and started for the state of Iowa. The oxcart and prairie schooner afforded the only means of travel and the trip was necessarily severe but all was endured and they arrived in Calhoun county, Jackson township April 26, 1858. When the civil war broke out, her husband answered the call of his country and Mrs Hutchinson maintained a home for their four small children during his three years of service. With all her cares and labors made necessary by lack of means and the disadvantages of the early frontier life, yet she, like the one of old, chose the better part. The school received her intense interest and the church always had her heartiest support and encouragement. She gave liberally of her means for its support and seldom missed on of its services. On May 12, 1861, with four others, she helped to organize what is now the First Baptist church of Lake City, Iowa. For 9 years the church was located by Lake creek and was called the Lake Creek Baptist church. Later, in the year 1870, the members voted to change the location to Lake City and the name of the church was then changed. With the passing of Mrs Hutchinson the last charter member of the Baptist church of Lake City was gone to their reward. Since the year 1900 she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs John Oxenford, of Lake City. For the last few years there had been a falling off in health of our departed. Besides her loving children she leaves to mourn her departure, one brother Frank Gregg of Springbrook Ore, eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and everyone who knew her. Ther funeral services were conducted by Rev Harry N Throckmorton at the First Baptist church, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock . A male quartet, B.E. Hammond, R.E. McCaulley, Charlie Patterson and Vergil DeSart sang several selections. The pall bearers were W D Pittman, R.L. Koontz, Rufus DeHart, John Allen, F.M. McCaulley and Arthur DeSart. Burial was in the family lot at Cottonwood cemetery.
