June 4, 1857 she was married to Reuben Wykoff in Pennsylvania, and to them were born three children, Mrs. Clara L. Slonecker, George M. Wykoff and Susan C. Henderson, all of whom survive her. June 4, 1857 she was married to Reuben Wykoff in Pennsylvania, and to them were born three children, Mrs. Clara L. Slonecker, George M. Wykoff and Susan C. Henderson, all of whom survive her. Mr. Wykoff was drowned in 1864, and in 1868 Mrs. Wykoff and her three small children came to Seward county, where she took up a homestead in F precinct. Feburary 2, 1873, she was married to Walter Briggs, and to them were born three children, Samuel P. Briggs, Mrs. Sarah P. Gake and Virgil Briggs, who also survive her. In 1892 she moved to Seward where she made her home to the time of her death. August 19, 1879, she became a member of the United Brethren church, and has always lived a conscientious Christian life. The funeral services were held at the U. B. church in this city Friday, Dec. 12, conducted by the pastor Rev. Distressing Casuality -- two Men and Two Children drowned -- We regret to learn that on Satursday morning last, as James Brass, Reuben Wykoff, Robert Derr, Daniel Hafer, John Hafer, and two little boys, sons of John Hafer, all of Lewis Township, Northumberland County, were riding in a two horse spring wagon, on the towing path, a short distance above the Muncy Dam, they were precipitated down the bank, a distance of about fifteen feet, into the river, and that Daniel Hafer, Reuben Wykoff and the two little sons of John Hafer, were drowned, but Messrs. Brass, Derr and John Hafer, succeeded in regaining the shore. The water having fallen several feet during Saturday afternoon and night, a large number of men were engaged on Sunday in searching for bodies, but we believe without success. By this sad occurrence Mr. John Hafer is called upon to mourn the loss of a brother, two children and a brother-in-law (Wykoff) and we learn he is overwhelmed with grief.
