Description	:	Maria Jane Reed Maria Jane Reed, daughter of Andrew and Agnes Reed, was born near Pittsburg, Iowa, Sept. 19, 1848. She grew to womanhood and engaged in teaching in the rural schools of Van Buren county and later went to Illinois where she followed the profession for several years. She then went to Kansas where she taught near and in Garden City, Kans., for over forty years. She instructed many who later sent their children to her classes for education. Read More	Maria Jane Reed Maria Jane Reed, daughter of Andrew and Agnes Reed, was born near Pittsburg, Iowa, Sept. 19, 1848. She grew to womanhood and engaged in teaching in the rural schools of Van Buren county and later went to Illinois where she followed the profession for several years. She passed away in a local hospital at 4:20 Wednesday morning, Sept. 25, 1935. On Sept. 19 she passed her 87th birthday. She was a member of the Methodist church in Garden City where services were held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon. She was a woman who was esteemed by all who knew her. She leaves a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends to mourn her going. Funeral services were held from the Burnett funeral home in Keosauqua Sunday afternoon, Sept. 29, at 3 o'clock in charge of Rev. M.E. Hayes, pastor of Keosauqua Methodist church.
