Pleasant, Feb. 3.—(Correspondence.)—Our people here were shocked to hear of the death of one of Mt. Pleasant's old residents, Mrs. W. W. Pennington, which occurred in Chicago last night. The remains will be brought to this city tomorrow morning on No. 3, and the funeral will be held in the afternoon, conducted by Dr. Corkhill and Rev. Thorne, and the remains will be interred in the Forest Home cemetery, by the side of her husband who died last November." Pennington, was buried Sunday afternoon at Forest Home Cemetery. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church at 2:30 , conducted by Rev. Thorn, assisted by Dr. Corkhill. Three months ago the family were called here by the illness and eath of the father, and so soon again called to pay the last and loving tribute to the mother. Three months almost to a day, Nov. 5, 1893, the father was laid to rest. Not long the separaton of the two, who had so many years traveled up and down the road of life together. After Mr. Pennington's death, the daughter, Mrs. Umstot, of Chicago, took her mother home, with misapprehension, for she had long been in feeble health but much to the surprise of her family and friends, notwithstanding the trying and severe climate of Chicago, she seemed to gain new vigor and strength, and was able to walk several blocks, she was content in her new home, not only content but happy. It was an oasis in life, and it is a pleasure to think that the last days of ones loved ones bright and full. Mrs. Umstot was untiring in her devotion and her whole thought and aim was to maker her mother's life happy. Her last illness was of short duration and only about 36 hours was she to suffer and her last moments were quiet and peaceful. She is too well known to eulogise on her life, for all know what a devoted and loving wife and mother she was. — The two sons, Mr. Charles Pennington, of Bloomfield, and Mr. Samuel Pennington, of Albia, were here.
