Gibson, who had been a resident of Marion for forty nine years. Mrs. Gibson was born in Bradford Co., Penn., April 28, 1846, and came to Marion the day she was seventeen years of age. She was united in marriage to Mr. J.K. Gibson, April 26, 1864, and was the mother of four children; Clarence, who died May 13, 1887; Mrs. J.W. Bowman of this city; Mrs. D.r H.W. Putman, of Topeka, Kansas; and Miss Harriet Gibson of Marion. Mrs. Gibson was a woman of rare ability, a keen observer of what was going on in the world, and an active worker in all that was good. For the past four years since the death of her husband, her health gradually failed, and although her friends knew there was not much encouragement, yet her courage, her hope, and patience kept her life sweet until the final dissolution. Peacefully and beautifully she went to sleep surrounded by those she loved. Mrs. Gibson was a Christian in the true sense of the word. She lived for others. Those who knew her best bear testimony that she would rather do a kindness to another than to be the recipient of it herself. Even in her long sickness, her thought was always for others. She became a Christian early in life, was a member of the Methodist church of Marion for more that forty years, and was always a loyal and consistent member. For many years she was a member of the Official Board, and sang in the choir for more than fifteen years her husband being leader of the same. Although a woman of decided opinions she was calm, judicious and charitable in her estimate of other people; "Kind and patient and loving and true, None knew her but to love her, None named her but to praise." She is survived by her three daughters all of whom were present with Mr. J.W. Bowman, Dr. H.W. Putman, her grandson Gibson, and Mr. J.W. Gibson for the funeral service which was conducted by Rev. S.R. Beatty, pastor of the Methodist church at the home on Thursday afternoon, August 1, 1912, the interment being in Oak Shade cemetery.
