August 10, 1933 PIONEER LADY DIES AT FARM HOUSE Mrs. Charles Welding, a well known resident of the community passed away at 1:15 Friday afternoon, August 4, at their home southwest of West Point. Death, which followed a number of months illness was due to comp- lications of old age. Theresa Ernesti Welding was born September 8, 1859 to Carl and Mary Thiele Ernesti at Harren, Westphalen, Germany. She grew to womanhood and received her education at her birthplace, coming t this country at the age of 18. On October 24, 1882 she was united in marriage to Charles Welding at West Point. Eleven children, four sons and seven daugh- ters,were born to them. One daughter, Elizabeth, preceded her in death, passing away in 1904 at the age of eighteen. Mr. and Mrs. Welding made their home on a farm southwest of West Point since their marriage. Their golden wedding anniversary was observed last year with a celebration. Mrs Welding had been in failing health the past year and for a time was a patient at St. Joseph's hospital in this city, returning home from there a week before her death. Her husband and the following ten children survive; Mrs. Jos. Meister, West Point; Jos. Welding, Elgin; Mrs Wm. Drueke, O'Neill; Mrs. Jos Poeschl, and Mrs. Charles Lamb, Grant; Mrs John Schrage, Olean; Mrs Frank Strehle, Conrad Welding, Carl Welding of this city and Casper, at home. Three broth- ers who survive are Philip Ernesti, of Aloys, Casper Ernesti of Bird Island, Minnesota and Fritz Ernesti in Germany. There are fifty surviving grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning at St. Mary's church with Rev. J. J. Eilers officiating. Interment was made at St. Michael's cemetery. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral rites were Mrs. Jos. Poeschl and Mrs. Charles Lamb and daughter Cleon of Grant, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Welding, son Gilbert and daugh- ter LaVerne; Mrs. Albert Albe and son-in-law, Pete Tiele, of Elgin, and Casper Ernesti of Bird Island, Minnesota.
