One of ten children,her siblings were: Etna 1826-?,Louisa Isabel 1827-?,Leonard 1827-? Mary Ann 1834-1866,William 1836-1875,John Henry 1838-1900,Elizabeth 1844-?,Alexander 1845-? Rebecca 1847-? Mrs. Barden had lived at Graysville fourteen years and was a familiar figure along the river in that neighborhood. as she was an adept with the hook and line and scarcely ever returned empty-handed from her fishing excursions. She was a great pedestrian, also, and would walk for miles in search of good fishing Grounds or in quest of berries and, nuts that grew wild in great profusion along the river and in the woods, land during the fishing, nutting or berrying season she might be seen headed for her fields of operation at the first gray streaks of dawn. She was an inveterate smoker and her pipe and tobacco were her constant and only companions on her fishing trips or in her search for berries or nuts. She was skilled in raising vegetables, also, and her "garden patch" was one of the finest to be found anywhere.”
