Description	:	Marian Gibbs, 89, died at St. Peter's Hospital on Friday morning, May 9, 2003. Born Marian Lamoreaux in Miles City on June 10, 1913, and raised by her mother and stepfather, Alta and J. King Gibbs, Marian was the oldest of five children. She graduated from Western Montana College in Dillon and taught in Forsyth before moving to Helena in the 1940s. Born Marian Lamoreaux in Miles City on June 10, 1913, and raised by her mother and stepfather, Alta and J. King Gibbs, Marian was the oldest of five children. She graduated from Western Montana College in Dillon and taught in Forsyth before moving to Helena in the 1940s. Marian taught fourth and fifth grade in the Helena school system for 35 years before retiring in 1975. Nothing brought Marian more joy in her later years than hearing from her former students. Marian loved to travel and especially enjoyed the trips she made to Alaska and Israel. She loved praying, gardening, reading, solitude, and most of all, she loved dogs. At age 88, she traveled to Portland with Sister Elizabeth Henry and Dianne Armstrong to attend her first big dog show, the Rose City Classic. She had wanted to be ringside to watch Dianne's Miniature Schnauzer "Mattie" compete in her first obedience trial. She brought many smiles to the spectators at the show when Marian, now wheelchair bound, told everyone she had always wanted to go to a dog show. When Dianne and Mattie left with a blue ribbon and Mattie's first obedience title, Marian was delighted. She never missed another show if the Armstrong dogs were competing. In fact, she thought we should let her keep all their ribbons too, and we did just that. Marian was a quiet, gentle woman with a ready smile who will be greatly missed. Her last 12 years were made even happier by a very special friend, Sister Elizabeth, who made it possible for her to remain in her own home where she wanted to be, on the couch watching Opra Winfrey with her little dog "Annie." She liked the morning newspaper, and she liked it on time. If it was late, she speed dialed until she got it. Although Marian long out-lived her own family, she became a part of ours. Marian considered herself a prayer warrior and loved to pray for others. People from all faiths and walks of life called her with prayer petitions, and she diligently prayed for each and every one. As Kate Runkel put it, "Marian's prayers go straight up." Marian was very excited about her upcoming 90th birthday party, especially the cake. In addition to her parents and siblings, Marian was preceded in death by her special friend and fellow teacher of many years, Helen Kitt. Marian leaves behind many friends including Sister Elizabeth Henry, Ron and Dianne Armstrong, Shirley Sutheimer, brother-in-law John Muzio in Alameda, Calif., and her many friends at the First Baptist Church, especially the Rev. Tom and Shirley James, Arlene Mathews, and Virginia Barfknecht. Marian will also be sorely missed by her very special fur friends, "Annie," "Allie," "Mattie," "Kelsey" and baby "Patrick." The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Retz Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom James officiating. Interment will take place at Forestvale Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of St. Peter's, 2475 Broadway, Helena, MT. 59601.
