Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. Catholic Daughters of America will say a rosary at 5 pm, and a vigil service at 7 p.m. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery following the service. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Sac City is in charge of the arrangements. Marian was born on January 2, 1932, to Joseph and Pauline (Eifler) Berger in Mt. Carmel, IA. She was baptized on January 17, 1932, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. She grew up in Mt. Carmel graduating from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel High School. On January 31, 1953, Marian was united in marriage to Joseph Drey of Early. To this union nine children were born: Donna, Marvin, Dennis, David, Joanie, Kevin, Alan, Barbara, and Marilyn. The Drey family were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, where they farmed 30 years. Marian worked as a cook at Spring Lake, Sacred Heart School, Sac Country Club and Crossroads Restaurant in Early. For 24 years she served as a sacristan and housekeeper at Sacred Heart Parish. She was also a member of the Guild and Catholic Daughters of America. Marian enjoyed spending time with her large family and helping with many church functions. She also treasured her friends and enjoyed playing cards and crocheting. She will be truly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Donna (Doug) Carlson of Early, Marvin (Therese) Drey of Des Moines, Dennis (Rhonda) Drey of Early, David (Mary) Drey of Storm Lake, Joanie (Bob) Buelt of Breda, Kevin (Sue) Drey of Pella, Alan (Linda) Drey of Sioux City, and Marilyn (Brent) Peters of Lake View; 28 grandchildren: Lucas (Julie) Carlson, Jared (Lisa) Carlson, Lisa Carlson, Aaron (Trish) Carlson, Patrick, Angela, Jesse, Shane, and Regina Carlson, Matthew (Kathleen) Drey, Michael Drey, Annie (Andrew) Salgado, Mary Beth Drey, Jeremy and Kelsey Drey, Katie, Becky, Ryan and Andy Drey, Nicholas and Jacob Buelt, Shannon and Emily Drey, Amanda and Tyler Drey, and Kyle, Jenna and Jaylynn Peters; nine great-grandchildren: Ethan, Braeden and Ava Carlson, Lane Carlson, Antone Carlson, Kaliah Drey, Katelyn and Isabelle Drey, and Benjamin Salgado; brother Joe (Jean) Berger of Webster City; sisters: Rose Berger of Carroll, Helen Henn of Petersburg, NE, and Marge (Lambert) Hoffman of Graettinger; sister-in-law Rosella Berger; and many extended family members and friends. Marian was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Pauline; husband Joseph; daughter Barbara in infancy; granddaughter Kayla; and brothers: Carl, Othmar, August, and Leonard.
