She was baptized May 29, 1932, and confirmed July 30, 1944, at Zion Lutheran Church, south of Mercer. She married Albert A. Marian was born to Dan and Mary (Werre) Strobel at their farm home south of Mercer, ND, on November 18, 1931. She was baptized May 29, 1932, and confirmed July 30, 1944, at Zion Lutheran Church, south of Mercer. She married Albert A. Uhlich on June 18, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, in which they were active members for nearly 49 years. Marian and Albert farmed and ranched east of Garrison until his death in 1999. Marian was very active in the operation, keeping the books, milking cows, and raising chickens, ducks, and geese; she grew a big garden and helped Albert with the beef cattle but was forced to slow down her outdoor participation after developing asthma in the mid-1960s. When the couple became empty nesters in the early 1970s, she began a new chapter in her life and joined the retail world at Cunningham’s department store in Garrison. She managed the fabric and giftware departments for 16 years. Marian enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, baking, and listening to music. She and her husband traveled extensively. They saw numerous countries during a month-long tour to Europe and also visited Alaska, Nashville, Orlando and Branson. They attended many family reunions across the country. After her husband’s death, she made several trips to visit her son and daughter-in-law in Philadelphia during which she toured the east coast and attended several Broadway plays. She visited Hawaii with her daughter and friends. On the occasion of her 80th birthday, she took a trip to New Orleans and cruised the western Caribbean. Marian moved to Bismarck after her husband’s death and centered her life around her church and the many new friends she made there. She was active in the Red Hat Society and her Wednesday coffee group. She loved house and cat-sitting when her daughter called on her to do so. Marian is survived by her daughter, Angela, Bismarck; her son, Gaylen (Julie), Wyndmoor, PA; her special friend, Cathy Janikowski, Bismarck; her brothers, Melvin and Elmer (Irene), Bismarck, Milbert (Delma), Des Moines, WA, Darwin (Janice), Orangevale, CA, and Jacob (Gayle), Rocklin, CA; her sisters, Norma (Ray), Fairview, MT, and Mavis (Bill), Suisun City, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, LeRoy; and three sisters, Betty Rohweder, Leona Ramsey and Frieda Hammack. Eastgate Funeral Home
