Marian Margaret Ramsay Fosler was born on February 17, 1928 in Seward, Nebraska to Roland Shelby and Margaret Eloise (Anderson) Ramsay. Having spent the vast majority of her life living happily on the farm, Marian passed peacefully on February 3, 2018 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 11 months, 17 days. A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, business owner, quilter, friend, volunteer and member of the United Methodist Church of Seward, Marian was a compassionate go-getter who took pride in helping others (and mowing her yard even at the age of 89). Marian graduated from Seward High School in 1946. It was as a Bluejay that she met a farm boy who would become the love of her life, Dale Fosler. They married on May 27, 1948 at the Presbyterian Church in Seward and celebrated 63 years of wedded bliss together. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Steven Dale, Susan Kay, CoraLynn Ruth "Corky", Carl Shelby and Clark Harry. Their children could not have wished for a better, happier childhood or more supportive parents than Dale and Marian. While raising her children, Marian drove the bus for Seward Public Schools for 15 years, and started her legacy of making a difference wherever she could. She was instrumental in motivating the school consolidation initiatives to improve education for rural students in the late 1950's. She was a 4-H leader for many years and later became integral in supporting the Seward County 4-H Foundation. And, she was expert in stretching fabric into as many dresses and doll clothes as possible, and splitting a candy bar in five pieces so that her children could have a treat in their lunch sacks. A true farmer's wife, she creatively made the most of limited resources. Marian was an active lifelong community member and devoted member of the United Methodist Church of Seward for more than 70 years, serving on many committees and especially enjoying being the MYF sponsor and High School Sunday School teacher during the '60s and early '70s. She was a devoted member of the Seward United Methodist Church Foundation, and until recently, she was a key member of the church building committee. A trailblazer in her own right, Marian was the owner of Fabric Fair in Seward from 1972 until her retirement in 2002. Always committed to bettering the community, she was elected as the first woman president of the Seward Chamber of Commerce and was the "Community Service" Award winner in 2003 during the July 4th celebrations. Through her 30 years as a business owner and many years as a 4-H leader, Marian taught countless girls and boys to sew and quilt for fun and as well as for 4-H projects. Spreading her love of fabric and quilting went beyond her store and Seward. Marian was a founding member of Nebraska Independent Fabric Shops, helping to organize the first Shop Hop across Nebraska. She received the Golden Thread award in 1993 from the Nebraska State Quilt Guild. In addition to pursuing her own passions, Marian beautifully managed to be a devoted farm wife and supporter of her husband's hobbies. Marian enjoyed driving her Massey Harris Pony tractor in many parades and shows alongside Dale. Highlights for Marian and Dale were being at the National Massey Harris Convention and the Camp Creek Threshers annual event. A grandmother and great-grandmother, Grammy made the best doll clothes and French toast, and her hugs could solve any ailment. At her miniature tea table, "Teapot" little Grammy or Grammy on the farm, hosted the perfect tea party for all of her grandchildren. Marian leaves a legacy of her love of sewing and quilting, as well as her positive outlook on everything that life has sent her way. Marian is preceded in death by her husband, H.Dale Fosler, son Carl, parents Roland and Margaret Ramsay, sisters Jane Graff and Nancy Radford. Survivors include: Steve and Mark Fosler, Susan and E.V. Walsh and their children: Vince and Jen Walsh, J.B. and Shannon Walsh, Elizabeth and Shawn Troyer, Aaron and Sarah Walsh; Corky and Charlie Malmberg and their children: Julie and Andy Grawe, Sam and Jenn Malmberg; daughter-in-law Linda Fosler and children: Amanda Fosler and Corissa and Geoffrey Gross; Clark and Julie Fosler and their children: Kaitlin Fosler, Molly Fosler and Max Fosler; 14 great-grandchildren: Alexa Walsh, Zoe Walsh, Emily Walsh, Abby Walsh, Evin Walsh, Katelyn Walsh, Lyra Walsh, Zach Walsh, Halley Herring, Maggie Troyer, Grace Troyer, Aden Troyer, Addisyn Gross, Jaxon Gross; sister Dorothy Heideman Nelson and Don Nelson; brother Bill and Pat Ramsay and a host of friends.
