She was born December 4, 1929, in LeMars, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Gertie Koldenhoven Vander Stoep. On December 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to Hubert Slings at Hollandale, Minnesota. Read More	Marian Slings December 4, 1929 - August 23, 2018 Obituary for Marian Slings Marian Slings, 88, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, August 23, 2018, at the MHP Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was born December 4, 1929, in LeMars, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Gertie Koldenhoven Vander Stoep. On December 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to Hubert Slings at Hollandale, Minnesota. Hubert died on June 2, 1993. Following their marriage Marian stayed home to care for her family and home. She also was active in helping Hubert on the farm. After her children were grown, she worked for many years at Mahaska Hospital in food service. She was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. She loved to crochet and fish especially with her grandchildren. Marian’s faith and family were the center of world. She found great hope and joy throughout her life in the Bible and following Jesus Christ. She delighted in spending time with her family and always looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family includes, son: Bernie and Marlene Slings of Oskaloosa, and their children, Brent (Malinda) Slings and Lisa (Shawn) McKinney; daughter: Marla and Wayne Nilson of Oskaloosa, and their children, Ross (Amy) Nilson and Cole (Crystal) Nilson; and son: Jay and Randee Slings of Ankeny and their children, Doug (Melinda) Slings, Eric Slings, and Drew (Heather) Slings; eight great grandchildren; a great great grandchild on the way; two step great grandchildren; two step great great grandchild; a sister and her husband, Carolyn and Glen Ruter of Kanawha, Iowa; a brother, John Vander Stoep of Hollandale, Minnesota; and two sisters in law, Marilyn Van Wyk and Alice Dorlag. In addition to her husband Hubert, Marian was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Slings; a brother, Andrew Vander Stoep; father and mother in law, Bert and Jennie Slings, brothers and sisters in law Min and Freeman Houk, Edna and John Boender, Jenella and Sam Stull, Art and Hattie Slings, Carroll Van Wyk, and Elsie Vander Stoep. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 27, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Doug Vander Pol officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Sunday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 3-6 Sunday afternoon to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa Christian School.
