The longtime Broadus resident, had moved to Jackson in August 2011 from the Powder River Manor in Broadus, Montana to be near her daughter Emily. Marianne was born on December 18, 1940 in Lame Deer, Montana to Margaret Groombridge and Alvie Cooley. As a small child her family moved to the Moorehead, Montana area where Marianne attended grade school until the family moved to Broadus in the early fifties. She graduated from Broadus high school in1958 and attended Black Hills State University that summer so she could teach in rural schools that fall. Marianne taught in several rural schools over the years and earned a Bachelor's Degree from BHSU in 1972. In 1961 Marianne married Wayne Hagedorn and they lived in Broadus until Wayne's death in 1979. Marianne and Wayne welcomed their only child, Emily, into their lives in 1973. After a hiatus from teaching, Marianne accepted a position at the Broadus Elementary School in 1983 and retired from that position in 1998. In 1983 Marianne married Leroy Hyatt who shared her love for the outdoors and animals. During their years of marriage they lived on a small ranch and maintained a band of sheep. Marianne loved horses and horseback riding so there was always at least one horse on the place. During the summers they moved their sheep to the Gay ranch to help control the leafy spurge on the ranches' river bottom. The two of them loved the trips "up the river" to check on the sheep and to bask in the beautiful countryside they both loved so very much. Marianne usually had a dozen or so bum lambs that occupied a lot of her time and she loved every minute of it. One of her greatest joys was to go for a walk through the trees lining the Powder River to observe the splendors of nature. Marianne was a kind and gentle soul, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. Her friends and surviving family members realize that her passing will leave a vacuum that Marianne filled with her caring ways. Her parents, her brothers Allen "Buzz", Larry, Forest "Spade" and husbands Wayne and Leroy preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister Sheila Trumps, one brother Rodney, her daughter Emily Hagedorn-Wegher (Matthew), her stepson Jeff Hyatt (Val) and their daughters Ashlee and Kortnee, and by one stepdaughter Jody Hyatt. A memorial for Marianne will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Congregational Church in Broadus. The service will begin at 11 a.m. and a lunch will be served.
