She was born July 15, 1937 in Bethel Kansas to Jonathan Lee and Luretta Tillie Grubaugh. The family moved to Council Grove, when Marida was five years old. She graduated from Wilson High School and attended Manhattan Christian College. She married Donald Barber June 16, 1957, in Council Grove. They had four children: Darryl Lee, Dwayne Lyn, Lynda LeAnn and Shari Elizabeth. Don and Marida owned and operated Barber TV. They both worked for Morris County Ambulance Service, where Marida served as an EMT. They were happily married for 36 years. After Don’s death on June 28, 1993, Marida attended Flint Hills VoTech and received her nursing degree. She worked at Council Grove Health Center for many years. She was a member of the Community Christian Church, EHU, Church Women’s Group and Missions Team. She was also a Den Mother for Boy Scouts and a Girl Scout Leader. She was a talented seamstress and made many wedding dresses, prom formals and men’s suits. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, and all kinds of needlework. In the summer, she enjoyed working in her vegetable and rose gardens. She loved attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting and dancing events. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers, son Dwayne, and grandson Steven Keplar. Marida is survived by her children: Darryl Barber and wife Ariane, Goodland, Lynda LeAnn Keplar and husband Steve, and Shari Meade and husband Tom, all of Council Grove; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sister Faynola Bettles. A visitation will be from 6-8, Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Community Christian Church. Funeral services will be at 10:30am, Friday, February 22nd, also at the church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cookson Hills Christian School and sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
