Marie was the last member of the Alfons and Marie Therese (Coppitters) Beelaert family of Ewing, Nebraska. Marie was preceded in death by: parents, infant daughter, infant granddaughter, five brothers, four sisters, husband of 61 years Gordon O. Harper, as well as her son-in-law, Jim Jarman. Marie was preceded in death by: parents, infant daughter, infant granddaughter, five brothers, four sisters, husband of 61 years Gordon O. Harper, as well as her son-in-law, Jim Jarman. Marie is survived by: daughters, Sandra Jarman of Chambers, Nebraska and Jeanette Johnston (Daniel) of San Jose, California; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Marie began her married life with Gordon in 1934 living on his parents' farm near Page, Nebraska until 1941 when they moved to a ranch southeast of Ewing, Nebraska. After so many years of living around farm animals Marie's asthma forced them to move from their rural life to Le Mars, Iowa, in 1943. Gordon began his work as an aircraft mechanic both in Le Mars and in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, the family moved from Jacksonville, Florida, where he had been stationed, back to Holt County, Nebraska. From 1946 to 1955 Gordon and Marie lived at the O'Neill (NE.) Municipal airport where he was manager until 1955. At that time Gordon began working as an airplane accident inspector and instructor for the Federal Aviation Administration. Throughout his career he and Marie were required to relocate many times, moving from Illinois to Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. When Gordon retired, they moved from Texas back to Chambers, Nebraska and enjoyed many years reunited with family and relatives in the area. They were active members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Amelia, Nebraska the American Legion and Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus and Altar Society. Marie was a devoted wife and "stay-at-home" mother. Despite the hardships the Depression, World War II and of the era in which she lived, Marie provided a powerful example of faith in God and in her family. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, and gardener and well known for her quilting skills. She loved to entertain, play cards and bingo, and made life-long friends in every place where she lived. She spent her final years at the Evergreen Assisted Living Residence, O'Neill, Nebraska and Parkside Nursing Home, Stuart, Nebraska. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 21, 2013 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, O'Neill, Nebraska with burial in O'Neill Cemetery, O'Neill, Nebraska.
