Description	:	Marie Fightingbear "Novae"(Slow Woman) was born in Birney, MT on November 11, 1942 to Herbert Fightingbear, Sr. and Margaret Standing Elk Fightingbear. She attended school at the Birney Day School and graduated from Busby High School in May, 1963. She married Herbert Bearchum, Sr., in 1965, at which time, she was living with her grandmother Grace Strange Owl and family. Adopted daughter, Dewanda Littlecoyote of Ashland, MT, She has 23 grandchildren: Shantel, Rick, Rex, Barry, Jr., Danielle, Cheyenne, Shalene Shavee, Chantell, Noveko, Romeo, Cross, Taibree, Mishayne, Valarie, Byron, Tyrone, Jr., Shaelee, Shania, Tyren, Jada, Sharee, Traven, Jacelyn and one great grandchild. Marie is preceded by: both parents, brother Robert "Bobbie", sisters Kay and Serena Fightingbear, grandmother Grace Strange Owl, aunts Nancy Fightingbear, Freda Standing Elk and Sally Goggles, uncles Melvin and Wayne Standing Elk all of Birney and grandson Atreal Bearchum. Marie surviving siblings are: Ronnie, Nathal of Birney & Roy, Sr., of Lame Deer, William "Billie"(Mary) Fightingbear of Riverton, WY. Her relatives include: Standing Elk, Redneck, Pine, Strange Owl, Bellymule, Fightingbear, Sandcrane, Little Old Man, Sooktis, Little Birds, Old Man, Elkshoulder. If we have forgotten any families, please forgive us. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her employment at the St. Labre Guilds arts & crafts.Marie was a very loving and caring person. She always opened her home to people and especially children that were having struggles at home. She would always take care of those children like they were her own for days on end. Her home was their home. She loved to help anyone who was in need of help. Marie enjoyed travelling with "Happy Herb" to see her children and grandchildren in Nebraska, to pow-wow's where she really enjoyed gourd dancing. She loved to travel to basketball games, even in Nebraska because she was a BIG basketball fan. She also loved traveling to Bear Butte, SD to pray for good blessings for her family and relatives. Marie had a strong belief in our traditional ways of prayer and our sacred covenants. Marie was very proud of her granddaughter, Shantel, for her service in the Armed Forces. "Happy Herb" and Marie honored Shantel at the Ashland Labor Day Pow-wow this past year. Marie will be greatly missed by all her relatives and especially by her family at the "Heritage Center". The family would like to express their gratitude to the residents & staff of Heritage Living Center for all the care & support of Marie. The family would also like to thank Leona Limberhand and Anna Crow for all their help.Burial will be at the Bearchum residence on the Ashland Flats. Wake: Will be Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Labre Mission. Mass of Christian Burial: Will be Friday, January 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Labre Mission.
