Description	:	ST. ALBANS- Marie Annette (Ann) (Dickinson) Smith, 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 20, 2016, after a long illness. Ann was born November 5, 1943 in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada, at the Dykeman family homestead on Houlton Road. She was the daughter of Wallace Edmund Dickinson and Mildred Bernice (Dykeman) Dickinson. On July 1, 1950, the Dickinsons moved their young family to Pittsfield, Maine, eventually settling on the Spring Road. Ann attended Pittsfield schools, including MCI. ALBANS- Marie Annette (Ann) (Dickinson) Smith, 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 20, 2016, after a long illness. Ann was born November 5, 1943 in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada, at the Dykeman family homestead on Houlton Road. She was the daughter of Wallace Edmund Dickinson and Mildred Bernice (Dykeman) Dickinson. On July 1, 1950, the Dickinsons moved their young family to Pittsfield, Maine, eventually settling on the Spring Road. Ann attended Pittsfield schools, including MCI. She was proud of her Naturalization as a United States Citizen. She married James A. Smith on November 11, 1960. Jim passed away February 15, 2000. They settled on "the hill" in St. Albans to raise their family. Ann worked a large garden, canning and freezing food for the coming year, as well as raising livestock. She held a variety of jobs, including working at local production companies, field clerk for Cianbro and Bridge Construction, clerk and cook at St. Albans General Store, and lastly, A. E. Robinson in Pittsfield. Ann served her community well by volunteering in many different organizations. She was a charter member of the Hartland/St. Albans Ambulance Service, becoming certified as an ambulance attendant and teaching CPR and First Aid throughout the area to other ambulance attendant trainees. She was a charter member of the St. Albans Historical Society, served as a ballot clerk, and spent several years as Summerfest Chairman. Ann was an active member of the St. Albans Fire Department for 30 years, performing duties such as Secretary and Fire Police, organizing fundraisers, and Fireman's Suppers, and cooking for them whenever she could. Many a thermos full of coffee, and plates full of sandwiches were prepared for the men out on a call. She volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader when her daughters were young, and was a member of the Grange in town. She volunteered several years as a K-Valley Cub Scout Day Camp staff member at Camp Bomazeen. Ann took on a project with zealous conviction, giving it 100% effort, ensuring success. Her many interests include gardening, playing Bingo, reading, card games, crossword puzzles, crafts, camping, hunting and fishing, crocheting and knitting. She could "turn a heel" on a Canadian wool stocking with the best of them. She loved to travel, whether out for the day, across country, or especially "up home". Ann was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a brother, Charles E. Dickinson Sr, nephew, Charles E Dickinson Jr, and a grandson, James Albert Smith III. She is survived by her children, Lynn (Arthur) Parise of Skowhegan, MaryEllen (called Mel) (Joe) Tavares of Middletown, CT, and James A Smith Jr (Mischele Ellis) of Hallowell; 10 grandchildren, Lee Bingham-Redgrave (Anthony), Bradley Corson Jr (Sarah), Rebecca Walker (Matt), Erica Corson, Christian Martin (Chris), Kelsey Cray, Bethany Elfaham (Mostafa), Myles Cray, Christopher Frost (Nancy), and Joshua Smith; her step-grandchildren, who were just as special, Sheldon, Brad, Kevin, Anthony, Melanie, Caitlin C., Bailey, Brandon, Aimee, Beth and James T.; 13 great-grandchildren, Gabriel H., Rosalie, Bradley III, Lucien, Abel, Dianna, Antonio, Candace, Cole, Marianna, Gabriel E., Alex, Caitlin F., 3 more on the way; as well as several step-great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her sister Carolyn Dickinson and her partner Gilbert Solomon of Lincoln; nephew Shawn Dickinson of Bangor; her cousin Kathy Marsh and her husband Eric of Camden; long-time friends Barbara, Mabel, Ruth, and Elaine; and many others too numerous to mention. The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Butlers and the staff at SVH Clinton, and also to the staff at SVH Hospital for their kindness and compassion. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 6, 2016, at the St. Albans Fire Hall with burial to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Route 152, in Hartland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Albans Fire Department, 8 Water Street, St. Albans, Maine, 04971.
