Description	:	: Marie Antonia (Pravecek) Vosika was born in Colome on June 16, 1934 to Steve and Mary (Cahoy) Pravecek. Marie graduated from Winner High School in 1952. Marie married Romain Smolik on April 13, 1953. They initially made their home on a farm near Fairfax. Sometime thereafter they moved to a farm northeast of Gregory. Marie was a true farm wife with a big garden canning everything possible and butchering her own chickens. Years later Romain and Marie moved to Gregory. Marie married Romain Smolik on April 13, 1953. They initially made their home on a farm near Fairfax. Sometime thereafter they moved to a farm northeast of Gregory. Marie was a true farm wife with a big garden canning everything possible and butchering her own chickens. Years later Romain and Marie moved to Gregory. She was employed at various retail stores, most prominently being behind the meat counter at Louie's Grocery for several years. She also cleaned for people, worked at a sewing factory, and was a custodian at the Gregory School. Her last job was cleaning apartments at Senior Village where she ultimately lived. During this time period, Marie took great pride and found enjoyment in helping any neighbor that needed it developing many strong friendships. Marie had a true passion for her grandchildren and was very involved in their lives, becoming an avid sports fan as a result. There was rarely a game that she missed if one of them were playing. That spirit carried on until she could no longer attend. She was a true fan of the Gorillas. She was named "Fan of the Year" in 2000, an award she wholeheartedly deserved and was extremely proud of. Marie was also a real fan of the Minnesota Twins and could have quite the conversation with her grandsons about their games. Carlock dance hall on a Saturday night was where Marie would be when she could to polka and waltz. Marie was a member of the Catholic Daughters, St. Joseph Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Desert Storm Support Group President, and Gregory Athletic Club lifetime member. Marie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June of 2017. She continued to live her active life until two weeks before God called her home with Vicki and Lori taking care of her when she was no longer able. Marie passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the age of 83 years. Marie is survived by her son Keith Smolik, Chandler, AZ, daughters Vicki Smizer, Rapid City, and Lori (Willie) Bearshield, Gregory; five grandchildren Aaron (Misti) Smolik, Brock Bearshield, Benjamin (Melissa) Bearshield, Brandy (Scott) Louwagie, and Bo (Kate) Bearshield; five great grandchildren Noah, Max, and Brynn Bearshield and Bentley and Alex Louwagie; siblings Elizabeth Vawser, Ed (Bernice) Pravecek, Vince (June) Pravecek, Steve (Linda) Pravecek, Gary (Tammy) Pravecek, Teresa Pravecek, Andy (Betty) Pravecek; and sister-in-law Myrna Pravecek ; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Romain Smolik, brother Jim Pravecek, and brother-in-law Richard Vawser. Contributor: Mark Collins (47492688)
