Rickels Last Evening Her Passing Was Sudden; She Had Been Seriously Ill Since Monday. The unexpected death of Mrs. Harm Rickels occurred at her home in the southeast part of Monticello yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. She had been under a doctor's care for two weeks, but had been seriously ill since Monday of this week. Her death was caused by a complication of diseases. Mrs. Rickels maiden name was Maria Catherine Hinrichs. She was born December 14, 1861, at Marx, Ostfriesland, Germany, and was therefore 69 years of age at the time of her passing. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church at an early age and was ever faithful to the teachings of her church. She took a great deal of pleasure In entering into church activities, and could always be depended upon to do her share of its work. She was married to Harm Rickels August 4, 1882. Following their marriage, Mr. Rickels opened a store in Castle Grove township, and conducted the same for seventeen years. He closed the store and bought a farm In 1905 and engaged in agricultural pursuits for sixteen years. He and his wife retired from active farm work in 1921 and purchased a home in Monticello. Mr. Rickels died May 30, 1924, and since that time Mrs. Rickels had continued to live in Monticello. Mr. and Mrs. Rickels became the parents of twelve children, two of whom died in infancy, and one daughter, Margaret, died in 1908. The surviving children are John and William Rickels of Castle Grove township, Mrs. Phillip Skelley of Rock River, Wyo.; Henry Rickels, Fred Rickels, Mrs. Herman Julfs, Mrs. Chris Specht, of Anamosa; Mrs. George Poppe of Langworthy, and Mrs. Edward Harms of Wayne township. There are twenty grandchildren and one great-grandchild that survive Mrs. Rickels. She also is survived by one brother. Dick Hinrichs. of Anamosa. The time for holding the funeral of Mrs. Rickels is rather uncertain, due to the fact that no word has been received from her daughter, Mrs. Skelley, who lives in Wyoming. It Is possible that the services will be held next Sunday afternoon at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran church in Monticello. Rev. Henry L. Adix, pastor of that church, will have charge of the services. Mrs. Rickels body will be laid to rest by the side of her husband, in the Prairie Hill cemetery in Castle Grove Township.
