Meade was born on November 16, 1912 to Frank and Charlotte (Wallbaum) Gardner in Crystal Lake Township, Aurora County, SD. She graduated from Plankinton High School in 1931 and enjoyed playing basketball, once scoring 42 points in a game and winning the state championship in 1931. She attained an Clerical Associates Degree in from DWU in Mitchell in 1933. She worked at the FSA Office in Plankinton after graduation. Marie married Howard Meade on July 11, 1942 in Ft. Knox, KY. She continued working for the FSA Office while Howard was in the military. After Howard's discharge, they bought the Elevator in Plankinton and operated it together. She also worked at the Post Office and Treasurers Office in Plankinton. They retired in 1977. She enjoyed baby-sitting her grandchildren, gardening, and baking pies and chocolate chip cookies. Marie was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Plankinton where she was President of the ladies aide, and VFW Auxiliary member. She died at the Good Samaritan Center in Corsica on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the age of 102 years and 342 days. She is survived by her daughter, Jean (Ewald) Fink of Delmont, SD, son, Jim (Lolli) Meade of Spearfish, SD, grandchildren, Twaine (Nicole) Fink of Sioux Falls, SD, Tonya (Chris) Pfeifer of Tea, SD, Todd (Heidi) Fink of Garretson, SD, Travis (Tami) Fink of Delmont, SD, Kathryn Meade of Spearfish, SD and Jaclyn Meade of Columbia, MO, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard on May 27, 1994, sister, Sophia Krumm, and brothers, Hank and Bill.
