Description	:	Marie Elizabeth Hamman was born in Leussow, Mecklanburg-Schwerin, Germany, April 13, 1846 to Johann and Elisabeth (Sasch) Busacker. She was married in Germany to Joachim Johanne Range about 1863. She and Joachim had three children all born in Leussow; Willemina Mary Elizabeth Range born Sept. 22, 1865, Frederick "Fred" / "Fritz" Joachim Hinriech Range born Feb. 8, 1867 and Marie Range born Jan. 8 1869. Shortly after their third child's birth, the couple were divorced. Marie left Germany with her two daughters, arriving in America about 1871, settling first in Wisconsin. Her son Fritz, stayed with his father in Germany and some time around 1888 (see Fritz's Find A Grave memorial) he joined his mother in Iowa. About 1872, Marie married Wilhelm Laverence a native of Germany. Not long after their marriage they relocated to Maple Twp. (now Mapleton), Monona County Iowa. Here they had two children; Anna Laverence born Oct. 4, 1873 and John Laverence born Nov. 18, 1876. In October 1877 Wilhelm went missing after taking his horse out to check on his cattle. The family searched in vain for the missing husband and father, before finally giving him up for dead. Marie married Henry W. C. Hamman, Sept. 15, 1878 in Woodbury County, Iowa. They made their home on the property that Marie and her missing husband had purchased. A few days after the wedding Wilhelm showed up at their door. It turned out that, a day or two after he went missing he was found near Logan, Iowa. He had been assaulted and robbed of his horse and so badly beaten that he had lost his memory. He was placed in the local poor house, where he regained some of his health and mental faculties. Once he returned home it was determined that he was no longer the same person he was, so his marriage was annulled and he was committed to the insane asylum in Independence Iowa where he later died. Henry W.C. Hamman and Marie had three children; Bertha Ida Hamman born March 6, 1879, Henry J. Hamman born March 3, 1881 and Emma Luella Hamman born Aug. 2, 1882. Marie and Henry's marriage ended in divorce sometime in the 1890s. Henry eventually committed suicide in 1902 and Maria died of cancer in 1931.
