Harlan, Iowa Tribune Tuesday April 6, 2004 page 6A Marie Larson, 91 March 12, 1913 - March 17, 2004 HARLAN —Marie Elizabeth Larson, the daughter of William and Mathilda Appel Jacobsen, was born March 12, 1913, at Botna. She attended country school in the Irwin area. Marie was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Irwin. May 24, 1941, Marie married Lester Larson at Omaha, NE. Two children were born to this union, Russell and Mary Alice. After their marriage, they lived on a farm and sold chickens and eggs. Lester died Nov. 1, 1985. Marie lived on the farm for five more years and in 1993 moved to Harlan. After retiring, she sold Avon in the Defiance and Irwin areas. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Irwin, and the VFW Auxiliary. She died March 17, 2004, at her home in Harlan, at age 91 years and five days. In addition to her parents and her husband, Lester, Marie was preceded in death by her son, Russell; and her brother and sisters, Delbert Jacobsen, Mathilda Miller and Valeria Bestul. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Alice Larson of Harlan; four grandchildren, Laura Smith of Avoca, Ann Zimmerman of Council Bluffs, Jeff Erlbacher of Council Bluffs, and Jennifer Erlbacher of Scotts Bluff, NE; five great -grandchildren, Russell Zimmerman (Mandy), Heather Zimmerman, Jacob Smith, Lindsay Smith and Kristian Arnold; her brothers and sisters, Dewey Jacobsen (Joyce) of Cedar Rapids; Raymond Jacobsen of Los Angeles, CA; Virginia Dawson of Harlan; and Irene Schienle of Mission Hills, CA; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held March 20, 2004, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Irwin, with Pastor Victor Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Danway Cemetery in Irwin, with Lindsay Smith, Rod Legge, Heather Zimmerman and Rodney Hansen honorary casket bearers. Casket bearers were Roger Ahrenholtz, Russell Zimmerman, Troy Ahrenholtz, Jacob Smith, Jeff Erlbacher and Kip Arnold. Pauley Jones Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. . .
