She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist-Episcopal Church in Morton Township. She attended rural schools in Morton and Highland Townships and also Webster High School. Marie Estell Fick was born July 27, 1910, to Charles and Nora (Krueger) Fick on the family farm in Wheatland Township, Day County, southeast of Webster. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist-Episcopal Church in Morton Township. She attended rural schools in Morton and Highland Townships and also Webster High School. She married Herman Reetz June 30, 1930, at Rockford, Iowa, with her uncle the Rev. Henry E. Hilmer officiating. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Rusk Township where they farmed. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1980. Mr. Reetz died in 1985. After his death, she continued to live on the farm for a total of 63 years until flooding forced her to sell her home and move to Webster to the Golf Park Apartments. She enjoyed their cottage at Pickerel Lake for more than 30 years. She served as chairperson plus other offices of St. John's Lutheran Church, WMF and circles and was on the church council several times. When the new church was completed in 1954, she served on the furnishing committee. She was a charter member of Anna Olson Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered 40 years, working with the American Cancer Society in Rusk Township, of which she was secretary several years. She become a 50-year member of the South Dakota Farmers Union and was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by one son. Survivors include one daughter, Donna (Charles) Hendricks of Denver; one son, Donald (Helen) Reetz of Webster; one sister, Dorthea (Arthur) Lawrence of Watertown, S.D., and Donna, Texas; one brother, Orval (Janet) Fick of Bullhead City, Ariz.; several grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
