Read More	Child Drowns In Jar.....Mary Frances, 16 months old daughter of Mr and Mrs. Joseph Scharf, was accidentally drowned last Friday evening at the family home 8. 1-4 miles south and one mile west of Randolph. The accident happened at 7 o’clock in the kitchen of the Scharf home. Mr. Scharf had just come to the house with the mail and was looking it over and Mrs. Scharf was out of the room, but both thought the baby had gone outdoors with an older child. When Mrs. Scharf returned she found the child lying over the edge of a 10 gallon jar that was partially filled with water. The hands and face of the little girl were in the water, her body balanced over the edge of the jar. No sound was made by the child, the discovery of her death coming with a shock that completely unnerved the parents. Efforts were made to get a doctor from Randolph, in the meantime the parents doing what they could to revive their child but she was beyond help. Mary Frances was a sweet pretty child, playful and happy and full of life. The parents have the fullest sympathy of the community in the loss that has came to them so suddenly and under such sad circumstances. (Pierce County Call, 6 Aug 1925, Thursday, p. 3 ) Drowns In A Kettle Of Water The 18 months Old Child Of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Scharf Falls Into Water last Friday. Word was received here Saturday of the drowning of the eighteen months old child of Mr and Mrs Joe Scharf, living southwest of Randolph, in Pierce county. The terrible accident occurred Friday evening . From what The Call learn, there was a large kettle of water in the pantry used for cooling milk. Mr. and Mrs. Scharf were both in the house at the time. Mrs. Scharf was making a dress and Mr. Scharf was reading a newspaper. The child was also in the room. Later the child was missing and the mother asked her husband where she was. Search was made and the lifeless body of the little one was found in the large kettle of water. The parents were frantic with grief when they found that the child was past all human help. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church at Randolph Monday morning and attended by a large company of sympathizing neighbors and friends, who did all they could to lighten their burden of sorrow..(Pierce County Call —Nebr.— 30 July 1925, front page col 3) Contributor: Kathy Hajek (49486387)
