Mrs. Brueggeman, whose maiden name was Marie Melcher, was born Jan. 28, 1861, in Altrudnitz Province, Brandenburg, Germany, and was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical church. She came to the United States in 1879 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Melcher, who settled on a farm near Pilger. She was married at her home, Feb 22, 1881, to Henry G. Brueggeman, and on their wedding day, they came by sleigh to Norfolk, where Mr. Brueggeman had purchased a home for his bride. Mr. Brueggeman at first was engaged in the implement business in Norfolk, and later associated with his sons in the electrical trade. he was also prominent in the early day civic affairs and at one time was a member of the city council. Mr. and Mrs. Brueggeman, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Feb. 22, 1931, where the parents of eight children, one dying in infancy, Mr. Brueggeman died Oct 7, 1931. Mrs. Breggeman was an active member of Grace Lutheran church and attended services regularly until October, when her health started to fail. Surviving are four daughters and three sons, Ed, Van Nuys, Calif., Lorin, Wolf Point, Mont., Mrs. George Smith, Casper, Wyo., A. T., Brueggeman, Mrs. Clara Haviland, Mrs. Warren Beeler, and Mrs. Ed Schelly, all of Norfolk; eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The body will lie in state from 3 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the Berge-Thenhaus-Howser-Swoboda Home for Funerals here.
