She was born Dec. 6, 1912, in rural Washington to Fred and Minnie (Markman) Petersen. She grew up in rural Washington and worked both on the farm and also as a hired girl. Schmidt, 97, of Arlington died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair. She was born Dec. 6, 1912, in rural Washington to Fred and Minnie (Markman) Petersen. She grew up in rural Washington and worked both on the farm and also as a hired girl. She was a church member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington until 1954 when they joined Arlington Community Church, having moved to a farm in the area. She married Otto J. Schmidt on Feb. 24, 1932, in Omaha. The couple raised their family on farms in Douglas County until 1954 before moving to the farm near Arlington. They farmed until 1973 when they retired and moved into Arlington. She worked side-by-side with her husband helping in the fields and with other farm chores. Her husband preceded her in death Sept. 6, 1992. She was a member of the Just For Fun Extension Club while on the farm. She became a member of the Multi-Purpose Senior Center in Arlington. Survivors include: sons, LaVerne (and wife, the Rev. Shirley) Schmidt and Melvin (and wife, Sally) Schmidt, all of Arlington; a daughter, Eleanor Sullivan of Boca Raton, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by five brothers, three sisters and a great-grandson. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. John Hogue officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials have been established to Arlington Fire and Rescue and the Multi-Purpose Senior Center at Arlington. In Memory of Marie H.
