Marie was born on January 25, 1925 in New Annan, the eldest daughter of the late Harry and Jean (Murray) Langille. She was a graduate of Provincial Normal College in Truro and taught school in Keble, Middleboro, Durham, Windsor, Ontario and Dartmouth. She was a member of Salem United Church, Tatamagouche Mountain, Woodlawn United Church, Woodlawn UCW, Canadian Cancer Society New Annan Community Club, and volunteered for many community groups.
