Description	:	MARIE IRENE FOLK was born on Oct. 26, 1871, at Chotina, Bohemia, (later Czechoslovakia) to Josef (Joseph) Folk, born at Chotina February 6, 1834, and his wife and cousin Marie Hanzlicek who was born at the nearby Village of Robsic, in the year 1843. Joseph and Marie took their family to America on a ship named, coincidentally, "AMERICA" and they departed from Europe on 10 October, 1883, destined for Baltimore, Maryland.[1] From Baltimore, they went to Wilson in Ellsworth County, Kansas and established a home a few miles southwest of Wilson, on a farm. Marie Irene and her family were living on a farm near Wilson township in Ellsworth county, Kansas in 1885.[2] It was there that brother Vaclav Karel passed away in 1886 and was buried in a cemetery situated nearby. Not long thereafter, either in 1889 or 1890, the Folk family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma City the youngest daughter Rose passed away and was buried there.[3] Mary Irene claimed a homestead in one of the land runs in Oklahoma, about 1893, and her parents lived with her for a few years.[4] After her mother died, her father went to live with his youngest son, Theodore, in Nebraska. Mary Irene married on 2 May, 1908, in Perry, Noble, OK. to Vaklav Belohlavy [5] and they moved to Plattsmouth, Nebraska. She helped raise his three young daughters: Mary 1896, Rose May 1899, and Sadie 1903.[6] [7] Mary Irene wrote articles for Czech language magazines, the Kvety Americke II, and Hospodar and many stories and articles for the almanac Amerikan, published in Chicago, Illinois.[8] Mary died in March of 1936, probably in Cass County, Nebraska.
