Description	:	Marie Jewel Ayscue Daeke, 98, formerly of Bane Avenue, passed away December 11, 2017 in Kerr Lake Nursing Home. A life-long resident of Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Luther Benjamin and Ada Morris Ayscue. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Arthur Daeke and sisters, Zelma Ayscue Evans and Bertea Ayscue, and brothers, Albert and McClure Ayscue, as well as an infant brother. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Arthur Daeke and sisters, Zelma Ayscue Evans and Bertea Ayscue, and brothers, Albert and McClure Ayscue, as well as an infant brother. Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Alice Marie Daeke Jacobs (Darrel) and Donna Helen Daeke Dudash (Fred); a son, Arthur Wayne Daeke; three grandchildren, Lester Ray Peedin, Jr. (Stacy), Sandra Faye Peedin Trujillo (Mike), and Jayden Dudash; and five great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Myra Joy Evans Keeter. A graduate of Henderson High School, Marie Daeke was employed by Roses Inc., her entire working career until her retirement in her early 70s. She was employed in both the downtown Roses store as a sales clerk and floor walker and in Roses warehouse in the mail room and ticket department. Both her former homes on Peachtree Street and Bane Avenue in Henderson were locations where neighborhood children and her childrens friends were always warmly welcomed for play and visits. Her childrens friends as well as many others who knew her often commented about her sweet disposition and contented nature. She instilled a love of education in her children by stressing its importance and supporting their endeavors. As a member of the First Congregational Christian Church, church and faith were an important part of her life. More recently, she appreciated the weekly Sunday School lessons at the nursing home conducted by City Road United Methodist Church as well as the other churches and individuals who held regular devotions. A visitation for friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service scheduled for Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at First Congregational Christian Church, conducted by Rev. George Williams. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens. The children of Marie Daeke would like to thank the staff of Kerr Lake and Dr. Sundar for the care she received during her long stay in the facility. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Congregational Christian Church, 429 Rowland Street, Henderson, NC 27536 or to the charity of the donors choice.
