'''''''''''''''' The Brainard Clipper (Brainard, Nebr.), October 31, 1935, p. 1, col. 3 PIONEER RESIDENT PASSES TO GREAT BEYOND Mrs. Marie Divis, resident of this community for forty years, died at the home of her youngest son, Adolf, southeast of Brainard, early last Friday morning, Oct. 25. Her last illness was of about two weeks duration but she had been a sufferer of carcinoma of the stomach for some seven months. She was 70 years, 6 months and 28 days of age at time of her passing. Marie Kucera was born in Czechoslovakia March 27, 1865, and she was thirteen years of age when her parents moved to America and settled on a farm near Bruno. She was united in marriage to Vaclav F. Divis at David City on Feb. 12, 1883 and they resided in the Bruno community for about ten years, then moved to the farm southwest of Brainard where they resided for the remainder of their lives. Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Divis, one daughter dying in infancy. Surviving their parents are four sons, James, Louis, Albert and Adolf all of Brainard, seven daughters, Mrs. Anton V. Proskovec, Blencoe, Iowa; Mrs. Chas. Janousek and Mrs. Frances Dvorak, Brainard; Mrs. Jos. Zima, Garrison; Mrs. Thos. Zima, Utica; Mrs. Jos. Benes, Valparaiso; Mrs. Jos. A. Stanislav, Blencoe, Ia.; also sixty-two grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren, four half-brothers, Mike Kucera of Bruno; John and Vincent Kucera of David City and Frank Kucera of Genoa and a half-sister, Mrs. John Culek of Chicago. Mr. Divis died Sept. 12, 1921. Funeral services for Mrs. Divis were held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock from the St. Luke’s Catholic church, Loma. Rev. M. Pazourek conducted the services, and music was rendered by St. Luke’s choir. The pall bearers were Mrs. Divis’ six sons-in-law, A. V. Pokorny, Chas. Janousek, Jos. Zima, Thos. Zima, Jos. Benes and Jos. A. Stanislav. Burial was in the Loma Cemetery. Folks from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Pokerny and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. A. Stanislav and family, Mrs. Louis Stanislav and Mrs. Stanley Maly all of Blencoee, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Zima and Mr. and Mrs. Jos. P. Rerucha of Utica; Mr. and Mrs. John Divis and Mrs. Albina Sobotka of Bee. ___ We wish to extend our sincere thanks to all friends, neighbors and relatives for their help and consolation in our bereavement; to those who gave floral and spiritual offerings, and especially to Rev.
