A requium mass was offered for the repose of the soul of the deceased by Father Charles Becker. Proceeding, he quoted, "The Lord gave, the Lord hath taken away, as it had pleased the Lord, so is it done, blessed be the name of the Lord." it is from a contemplation of these words, whilst bowed down in grief and sympathy, our hearts saddened and dismayed by the awful and sudden catastrophe which bereft the deceased in the bloom and vigor of youth and life, that consolation is to be derived. For our faith teaches us that Divine Providence, in circumstances like the one before us, does mercifully guide and direct the soul of those worthy of it." "Regarding the child who lies before us, it can be truly said, her life was an exemplary one, as a child preparing for her first Holy communion, at the reception of Holy communion, and thereafter. Having thus lived a pure life with righteous intent to the best of her knowledge and ability, we are absolutely safe in assuming , that the soul of Lulu Schmidt has indeed been rewarded with eternal bliss in heaven, the ultimate home of all who by righteous intent and deed are worthy of it. The following information has been contributed by Trudena Fager: Lulu was born Marie Louise Schmidt, the daughter of John Schmidt and Barbara (Meon)Schmidt. She was born 13 Mary 1891, and has a twin sister, Mae Roselia Schmidt, and another sister Emma Katherine Schmitt. The lesson this most sad affair conveys is that death is an absolute certainty to the young and the old, and that we know not when, where or how the summons may reach us and whilst we all cling to life whilst it lasts it is but a transition to greater happiness, if we sincerely strive to do our duty and serve God. But to the insincere, unrighteous sinners, unrepentant to the last, it is but a forerunner of greater woe, for whilst God is merciful and rewards the just, He is also justice itself and the unrepentant, unprepared sinner will doubtless receive the severest condemnation." The attendance at the church of relatives, friends of the family and the deceased was very large, crowding the edifice to the doors.
