Description	:	Marie Mae (Haskins) Holmes Hopper, 86, of Hastings, formerly of Central City and Grand Island, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings. Marie was born on Dec. 27, 1924, in Central City to Everett and Alma (Richards) Haskins. Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Gerald Jones of Central City, Pam and John Garman and Cindy Leth, all of Hastings; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Irene Haskins of Omaha; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Marie was born on Dec. 27, 1924, in Central City to Everett and Alma (Richards) Haskins. Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Gerald Jones of Central City, Pam and John Garman and Cindy Leth, all of Hastings; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Irene Haskins of Omaha; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Marie grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School. After graduation, she went to California and worked on a military base during WW II. She returned to Nebraska and worked at Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Central City for several years. In 1948, Marie was united in marriage to Carroll Holmes. They lived in several Nebraska communities until 1959, when they came to live in Central City. Marie was a homemaker while raising her children and then worked for Redman's Shoe Store in Central City. In the early 1980's, Marie married E.T. Hopper and they lived in California, Arizona and Central City and Grand Island. Marie was raised in the Quaker Faith. She enjoyed embroidery and reading, especially western novels. Marie was preceded in death by her parents. Burial was in the Central City Cemetery, Central City, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on July 1, 2011
