Read More	Marie Margaret (Greder) Asmus (1897 - 1996) Marie Margaret Asmus was born May 9, 1897, the daughter of Jacob and Augusta Carstens Greder. She died at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa on Sunday, March 31, 1996 at the age of ninety-eight. Margaret was born in Sioux City, Iowa and lived with her parents on a farm near Buck Grove. After receiving her education at a rural school near her home, she was employed at a creamery in Buck Grove for a number of years. On October 31, 1931, she was united in marriage to Henry Asmus at the Lutheran Parsonage in Denison. The couple made their home in Buck Grove for two years, before moving to the Asmus family farm east of Buck Grove. Henry passed away in 1961 and Margaret sold the farm and moved to Arizona to be close to family. She later returned to Iowa and lived in Manilla for several years, subsequently moving to an apartment in Denison before entering the Denison Care Center in July of 1991. Margaret was a loving and devoted wife and a caring mother and grandmother. In her leisure time she enjoyed crocheting, knitting and gardening. Margaret was a member of the Kingdom Hall in Denison. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Mahnert and Henry Asmus; one son, Robert E. Mahnert, three sisters, Mary Greder, Alice Jensen and Meta Carstens; two brothers, Bernhard and Emil Greder, and one step-grandson, William Steinkuehler. Survivors included a step-daughter, Alvera Steinkuehler and her husband, Alvin of Dunlap; one brother, Harry Greder and his wife, Doris of Omaha; two grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; twenty-one step great-grandchildren and forty-one step great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, 1996 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Elder Donald Crane officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Oakland Cemetery.
