Description	:	Although Marie's stone and obituary indicate she was born in 1879, Birth and census records in the Czech archives both indicate her actual birth date was December 18, 1880 in House #33 in Radostin, the daughter of Filip JIrka and Anna Pelikan. Her obituary indicates she was married in 1902, but the actual date per their Saline County Marriage record was April 9, 1901. ~~~~~~~ Wilber Republican, March 20, 1942, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: Mrs. Mary Zumpfe Dies Mrs. Mary Zumpfe, nee Jirka, was born at Krucemburk, Bohemia, Dec. 18, 1879, and passed away suddenly at Crete, Nebraska, March 10, 1942 at the age of 62 years, 2 months and 22 days. She came to the United States when 12 years old. April 9, 1902, she was married to John Zumpfe. They made their home on a farm near Dorchester, Nebr., where they lived continually until they retired from farming. They made to Crete in April 1930 where they had bought a home. They had two children, one son, Milo lives on the home place, and the daughter, Emily, died when she was six years old. The husband passed away the 7th of July 1939. She leaves to mourn her departure, one son, Milo, his wife, and little granddaughter; four brothers and four sisters in Czechoslovakia and two brothers here in the United States, Adolph Jirka of Ralston, Nebr and Phillip Jirka of Havelock, Nebr and a host of relatives and friends. Her husband, daughter and her parents preceded her in death. She was member of the ZCBJ lodge for many years. Funeral services were held from the Kuncl Funeral Home at Crete, Thursday at 2:00 o'clock and from the Tabor Hall near Dorchester at 3:00 o'clock with Rev. K. O. Zavadil in charge of the service assisted by the ZCBJ lodge. The Smrz quartet sang. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
