Description	:	Lone Tree Reporter, Thursday, September 2, 1937 Mrs. Alois Hotz, one oi the pioneer residents of this community, passed away at her home in Lone Tree Saturday evening at 0 o’clock, after an illness of about three months' duration, her condition steadily becoming more serious for the past several weeks. Read More	Lone Tree Reporter, Thursday, September 2, 1937 Mrs. Alois Hotz, one oi the pioneer residents of this community, passed away at her home in Lone Tree Saturday evening at 0 o’clock, after an illness of about three months' duration, her condition steadily becoming more serious for the past several weeks. She was 79 years of age Mrs. Hotz had been a resident of this county for 56 years, and for the last 25 years had lived in Lone Tree. With her husband she came to this community in 1881, living for many years on the farm now occupied by their son, Charles, and moving to town in 1912. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home with the Rev. Paul M. Hann of Wellman in charge. So many neighbors and friends gathered for the services that many were forced to remain outside on the lawn, where they listened to the service with the aid of a loud speaker unit which had been installed for the occasion. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Lois, Harry, Elmer and William Hotz, Clarence Jondle and Harry Stanek. Four granddaughters, Blanche, Alice, Dorothy and Rosemary Hotz were in charge of the flowers. Music for the service was furnished by Cyril and Earl Rife, accompanied by Miss Nettie Lutz. Interment was in the Lone Tree cemetery. Among those from away who came for the service were J. F. Stanek and sons, Harry, Richard and Floyd, Frank Stanek, Tom Stanek, Mr. and Mrs. Will Hayek, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Franek, James Urban, Frank and Joseph Liska all of Ft Dodge, la.; Mrs. Anna Marek, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Marek, Mr. and Mrs. Will Telline, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hora. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sojka, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hora, Mr. and Mrs. Will Marek. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kosa, Mrs. James Knotek, Mrs. John Knotek, Mrs. Ed Kron, Ed Knotek and Mr. Beranek, all of Washington, la.; Mr. and Mrs. August Meyer, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hudachek, Mr. and Mrs. Jess James, Harry Hill, all of West Liberty. Mrs. Paulena Schmidt of Burlington. Mr. nnd Mrs. Jerry Kelly of Oxford, Mrs. Mary Prizler and Mrs. Anna Prizler of Iowa City. Mrs. Alois Hotz was born Mary Longer, in Czecho Slovakia, and came with her parents to America at the age of 13 years, settling in Washington county, Iowa. On October 30, 1877, she was married to Alois Hotz at Ainsworth, Ia. and they started farming near Richmond. Later they lived in Highland township and came into Johnson county in 1881, where they have since made their home, formerly on the Hotz farm now farmed by their son, Charley, and coming into Lone Tree in January of 1912. To this union were born four sons and two daughters, all being residents of this community but the younger daughter. Surviving are her husband, her children, Ed Hotz of Iowa City, Joe Hotz of Lone Tree, Mrs. Emma Jondle, Lone Tree, William Hotz of West Liberty, Mrs. Clara Stanek of Ft. Dodge, la., and Charley Hotz of Lone Tree Besides these sons and daughters she is mourned by 24 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Marek of Washington, Mrs. Josephine Henik and Mrs. Joseph Parizek of Lone Tree; one brother, James Longer of Washington. Mrs. Hotz had reached the age of 79 years and nine months while Mr. Hotz will be 85 years of age this month. Had Mrs. Hotz lived they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on October 30th.
