The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, June 21, 1979; pg. 10 ======== Marie Mathilde Schleif, one of three children of Gus and Minnie Togel Schleif, was born on her parent's farm at Bostwick, Nebr., June 28, 1916. At the age of 62 years, 11 months and 19 days, she passed away on June 17, 1979, at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings. As an infant she was baptized in her parent's home on July 23, 1916 by Rev. George Gundel. On April 12, 1931, she was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church of Abdal. At the time of her death she was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church of Superior. She attended the Abdal Public School. Marie was a very devoted person, giving her life willingly, helping her parents in their elderly years and caring for her two brothers; Robert being bedfast with arthitis for 41 years. She never once complained of her heavy burden in life. She was always thinking of helping others rather than herself. Marie was preceded in death by her father, Gus, on February 18, 1967, and her mother, Minnie on October 25, 1970. Left to mourn her passing of this life are her two brothers, Richard and Robert Schleif, both of rural Superior, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Salem Lutheran Church at Superior Thursday, June 21. Rev. Ray Ensign officiated. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery. Klawitter Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of the arrangements. Casketbearers were Dennis Hurt, John Overing, Berness Miller, Everett Meyer, Eldrick Grummert and Virgil Schleif. "Why Me Lord" was sung by Alfred and Janell Hanson. "How Great Thou Art" was sung by the congregation. Lillian Christensen was the organist. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, June 28, 1979; pg. 14
