Pocahontas Record Democrat - Wednesday January 8th, 2003 - Webster City, IA — Marie Steckelberg Keller, age 91, of Webster City, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. G.L. Milbrath officiating. Burial was in St Paul's American Lutheran Cemetery, Manson. She is survived by four daughters and one son: Doris Gommels and her husband Darrel, Jeanette Utley and her husband Ron, Richard Steckelberg and his wife Louellen, all of Fort Dodge; Charlotte Sherman and her husband Joe of Webster City; and Georgia Shafar of Camanche, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands Louis Steckelberg and Carl Keller; one son, Marlon, in infancy; her parents, John and Edith Crouse; brothers: Fred Crouse, Ralph Crouse, Raymond Crouse, Alvin Crouse and Charles Crouse; and sisters: Grace Buffington, Vera Moseback, Inez Carlson, Hazel Pohl, and Bernice Pickar. Marie Crouse was born on Feb. 9, 1911, in Pocahontas, where she attended school. On Jan. 7, 1934, she married Louis Steckelberg. The couple established their home in Clare and later moved to Fort Dodge. She, along with her husband, owned and operated the White Way Grocery Store. Later she worked at Sunbeam Bakery and Hy-Vee Bakery. Louis died in 1984. In 1988, she married Carl Keller. He died in 1995. Since that time she has resided at Crestview Retirement Apartments in Webster City.
