She was born in Garden City, Kansas, on June 10, 1908, to Conrad and Mary Oblander. After her birth, the family moved to Ballantine, MT., to farm. Marie married John Batt in 1926 and they lived at and operated the Batt Family farm near Huntley. She moved from the farm to Billings in 1991. Marie possessed a loving, gentle spirit, a delightful sense of humor and had a strong Christian faith. She was known for her wonderful Rivel Kuchen, Kraut Birrocks and sweet pickles. She loved spending time with family. In years past, she enjoyed working in the Ladies Aid at the Bethlehem Congregational Church of Worden, where she was a member. She took delicate care of her garden and surrounded the farmhouse with beautiful flowers. During John's retirement years, they enjoyed camping and fishing together. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1976; all three of her children, Billy Batt, Clara Powers, and Betty Giest; along with Betty's husband Leon Giest; a brother and two sisters. Survivors include her sister, Lydia Walters of Ballantine; a son-in-law, Dave Powers and his wife Bobbi of Laurel, MT.; seven grandchildren, Tim Giest of Phoenix, AZ., Steve Giest of Billings, MT., Keith (Diane) Giest of Phoenix, AZ., Ken Giest of Billings, Cindy (Terry) Ogilvie of Loveland, CO., Doug Powers of Bozeman, MT., and Debbie (Randy) Mostad of Billings; seven great-grandchildren, Derek Giest, Brian Ellison, Kyle Giest, Meghan Ogilvie, Adam Ogilvie, Courtney Mostad, Tanner Mostad; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, at the Smith West Chapel, Billings, with a lunch reception and fellowship immediately following. Interment ill follow at 2:20 p.m. at the Pleasantview Cemetery, Ballantine, MT. Memorials are suggested to the Valley Baptist Church in Worden, or a charity of your choice. Marie's family would like to express their deepest thanks to Ginny, D, Diana, Sarah and all the other caregivers at Ginny Wanner's for the special attention and love they gave their "Queen Mum." Grandma, we love you and you will be greatly missed by all.
