Description	:	Marie Pearl Thorell, 88 years of age, of Loomis, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Marie was born May 12, 1929 at Mrs. Crandall’s Nursing Home in Holdrege, the eldest child born to Alvin and Pearl (Sohus) Urbom. Her senior year of high school, Marie worked at the... Read More	Marie Pearl Thorell, 88 years of age, of Loomis, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Marie was born May 12, 1929 at Mrs. Crandall’s Nursing Home in Holdrege, the eldest child born to Alvin and Pearl (Sohus) Urbom. Marie received her primary education from District #34 - the Urbom School, District #61 - the Rubicon School, and then Loomis Public Schools, where she graduated from Loomis High School with the class of 1947. Her senior year of high school, Marie worked at the Loomis Telephone Office as a telephone operator, and following graduation, she was employed by the First National Bank of Holdrege. As a young girl, Marie accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege. In the years to come, she attended the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, where she met the love of her life, Darrell E. Thorell. On March 22, 1948, the couple were united in marriage at the Loomis Evangelical Free Church parsonage with Pastor Richard Swedberg officiating. They made their home in Loomis, and were blessed with three children: David, Danny and Janette. Marie worked as a part-time clerk in the Loomis Post Office for many years, and was then employed by Thorell Construction Inc. in Loomis as the bookkeeper. In 1984, Marie founded the Bridal Isle, which began out of her home, and when the business became too large for her home, she purchased a store front in downtown Loomis. Marie continued to operate The Bridal Isle in Loomis, until her retirement. On July 28, 2009, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell. Marie was a devoted member of the Evangelical Free Church of Loomis, where she was active with the Women’s Society, sang in the choir, served on the building committee when the new church was built, and shared her love of music as the church organist for many years. She enjoyed making ceramics, and many friendship bonds were formed throughout the years selling beauty products in her spare time, and in business at the Bridal Isle. For the past 1 ½ years, Marie made her home at Christian Homes Care Community. Besides her husband and parents; Marie was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Leland Thorell and his wife, Shirley; and sister-in-law, Nita Urbom. She leaves to celebrate her life; her three children: Dave Thorell and his wife, Patti; Dan Thorell, and Jan Adams all of Loomis; four grandchildren: Matthew Thorell of Loomis; James Thorell of Round Rock, Texas; Chelsea Adams and her special friend, Jarvis Ross both of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Chappell Adams of Loomis; two step-grandchildren: Amy Fuchs of Hastings, Nebraska, and Brian Thorell and his wife, Jean of Boise, Idaho; three great-grandchildren: Jadarien and Jordan Cardwell, and Jolaiya Ross; two brothers: Merlyn Urbom and his wife, Dorothy, and Ronald Urbom and his wife, Shirley all of Holdrege; special friend, Carroll Hansen of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services for Marie P. Thorell will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, Nebraska with Pastor Tom Thompson, and Mr. Wayne Carlson officiating. Interment will be held in the Moses Hill Cemetery in rural Phelps County, Nebraska following the services. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of the arrangements.
