Day, pastor of the Congregational Church, will officiate. Marie Petersen was born June 20, 1876, in Denmark, coming to this country at an early age. She operated a millinery shop in Clear Lake prior to her marriage to Frank Young, Oct. 9, 1902 at Clear Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Young with his brother-in-law, Thomas Stanfield, operated a restaurant, bowling alley and refreshment stand early in the century where the city offices and police station now are located. Later they had a refreshment stand at the White Pier dance hall and operated the old Roger Hotel for a year. From 1905 to 1910 Mrs. Young started the manufacture of homemade ice cream cones and ice cream which they served in their restaurants. This was the first time homemade cones were put on the market at Clear Lake. Later they built the Wayside Inn on the South Shore and operated it for a few years before they sold it. They purchased the bathhouse adjoining Clear Lake State Park on the South Shore and operated a boat line in connection with it for a number of years. Mr. Young died in 1947. She has no known survivors in this country, excepting for several nephews and nieces by marriage, Milton Young, Shirley Stanfield and Mrs. W. H. Ward, Clear Lake; Clarence young, Mason City; Homer Young, Garner; Bruce Young, Chicago, and Raymond Young, Omaha. She was a member of the Congregational Church. NOTE – Mrs. Young died in 1956.
