Maiers, 88, of Dyersville, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the Edgewood Convalescent Center, following a brief illness. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Phil Kruse officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. She married Lawrence Peter Maiers on June 20, 1939, in North Buena Vista; he preceded her in death in 1991. They farmed in the Holy Cross area until their retirement. Marie was active in the Dyersville Senior Center, bingo, quilting and cards, and was a member of the Order of Martha. Surviving are three sons, Rick (Sarah) Maiers, of Oxford, Ronald (Sue) Maiers, of Holy Cross, and Donald (Becky) Maiers, of Dyersville; four daughters, Diane (Dale) Brown, of Edgewood, Debbie (Jerry) Errthum, of Holy Cross, Sandi (special friend, Bill Willenborg) Boardman and Karen (Randy) Backes, both of Guttenberg; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Starla (Harry) Schuster, Janie Maiers, Verdie Engling, Dorothy (George) Mihm and Ginny Engling. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann, in infancy; two sisters, Clara (Art) Jaeger and Catherine (Bob) Palm; three brothers, Walter, Francis and Hubert Engling; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Francis) Tauke; and a brother-in-law, Elmer Maiers.
