Description	:	Marie was born in Colfax, Feb. 28th, 1914 to Lawrence James Ryan, & Fannie Dean Earnest Ryan Bakala. She attended Hamilton Grade School & graduated from Colfax High School in 1932. Marie attended Cheney Normal School receiving a life certificate in 1935. She taught a 3rd & 4th combination class in Quincy, WA for 3 years before returning to Colfax, where she taught at Jennings Elementary School. She attended Hamilton Grade School & graduated from Colfax High School in 1932. Marie attended Cheney Normal School receiving a life certificate in 1935. She taught a 3rd & 4th combination class in Quincy, WA for 3 years before returning to Colfax, where she taught at Jennings Elementary School. In later years Marie attended educational classes and correspondence courses at several institutions in WA and received her BA Degree in 1965. Marie & Ernest George Streib were married in Pullman on Aug. 3, 1938. Marie taught a kindergarten group of neighborhood boys and the following year, in 1953, began teaching at Jennings Elementary as a 7th grade teacher & later as a reading consultant before retiring in 1978 with 28 years of service. She was known by her students for teaching puppetry. The students wrote plays and dressed their handmade puppets according to the characters in their plays, culminating by entertaining the classrooms. The art of puppetry continued to be taught after her retirement. Marie also taught puppetry to her class at the Congregational Church. Marie was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Teachers' Retirement Association, Aloha Club, Altrua, SOC, Two Hoots, Tawanka-Cheney Honorary Society, and belonged to a bridge and pinochle group. Since her retirement she traveled to all the continents, but Antarctica. She has especially enjoyed Germany, visiting in 1937, missing the Adolph Hitler celebration in Nuremburg by one day. She saw the Queen Mother while in England. She again visited Germany in 1972 when her son John was stationed at Munich. She saw the Olympic construction in progress. Her last trip to Germany was in 1992 while her grandson Nathan was studying there. Not only did she enjoy traveling but also sharing slide presentations of her trips to students, club members & civic organizations. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, woodcarving, photography, oil painting & quilting. She was always concerned about the welfare of others, always providing the healing power of chicken soup. Marie especially enjoyed entertaining her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest in 1960 a sister and a brother.
