Funeral services for Marie will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Lyman, Neb. with the Reverend Doctor Robert Smith officiating. Internment will follow the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill, Nebraska. Marie Memorials can be made to the Lyman Volunteer Fire Department or the Immanuel Church of Christ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home. Marie Lippincott was born Dec. 21, 1915 at Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Peter and Mary (Maser) Sommer. She was baptized Jan. 2, 1916 at St. Johns Church in Lincoln and confirmed March 29, 1931 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lyman, Neb. In 1917 she traveled with her family to a farm near Henry, Neb. then moving again, north of Morrill where she attended Liberty School. In 1929 they moved to a farm near Lyman where she graduated from Lyman High School in 1932. She met Harold (Red) Lippincott at a dance. He told her she was his girl and Marie said, "Okay, I'm your girl", and were married February 23, 1935 at Mitchell where they lived on their farm west of Lyman. Marie was a long time member of the United Church of Christ in Lyman, having taught many years of Sunday school and served on the church council and the Women's Fellowship. She served on the board of directors of the Western Association of the United Church of Christ. Marie also worked for seven years as an office manager at the Goshen County Farm Bureau, where she and Red had a successful insurance business. They enjoyed many wonderful trips because of their hard work in the insurance business. She also worked for Harpstreith Bean Company in Lyman for seven years. She was very active in the Women's Happy Hour Club, the Table Mountain Community Club, and Lyman Senior Center. Marie loved to work on the farm, raise a garden, and really enjoyed her flowers. She learned to crochet in her later years and made afghans for all her grandchildren. She resided at WEL-Life at Scottsbluff assisted living. The family wants to thank all the staff that made her final years of life so pleasant. WEL-Life staff is very caring, and made Marie's transition from farm life and leaving her home so much easier. She is survived by her son Larry Lippincott of Lyman, Neb., daughters Karen (Bob) Gegner of Chandler AZ, and Rosemary DeLosh of Gering, sister Esther Bode of Scottsbluff, sister-in-laws; Nancy Lippincott of Mesa, Ariz., and Charlene Sommer of Cody, Wyo., seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Red of 65 years in May of 2000, son Marvin in Aug. 1999, brothers George and Pete Sommer, sister Lydia Heimbouch, and an infant sister. Marie's mother travelled to the US from Kukus, Russia in August of 1892 through Antwerp, Belgium with her parents and two brothers. She married Pete Sommers in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 2, 1913. Marie had brothers Pete, George, and sisters, Lydia and Esther. Her mother, Mary, passed away on November 14, 1932.
